The Jonathan Gitelson Radio Project is a weekly radio program on 107.7 WVEW Community Radio in Brattleboro, Vermont. Each week he explores a different theme through music and miscellaneous soundbites. Jon invited me down to come and talk about some of the music that has been featured at The Loading Dock over the past 5 years. Listen in!
This past week has been such an interesting week in live music for me; the genres and artists couldn’t have been more different, yet they all shared a common trait ....heart . I don’t care how talented you are; if you have heart and have something beautiful to say, I am right there with you 100%.

Second Sun is a metal band formed in 2016 by former Screen members Jared Hazelton and Jake Perry, along with Jared's brother Avery. Influenced by a multitude of genres and artists, the band put a spin on classic metalcore and hardcore sounds. Their new album cult was recorded at NCCR studios by Dustin Peterson and features thirteen blistering metal tracks bound to get a crowd moving.
Skunkhunt is a three piece from Littleton NH. Together we've forged a nasty sound that cannot go unnoticed or remain unheard. Doom meets Groove metal. The great north woods have unearthed a darker sound.
his Friday, January 25th at 8pm we are really excited to host a high-energy and creative jazz fusion quartet Randy Roos & Urethane. This band blends a potent mixtures of exploratory improvisation, infectious grooves, and searing leads. Randy Roos is a composer/guitarist/sound engineer that lives just south of the notch and is an associate professor at Berklee College of Music. Last summer, Randy and his nearly telepathic band played two blistering sets of music at The Loading Dock. His band consists of drummer Jared Steer, Bassist Mike Rossi, and Steve Hunt on keys. Jared Steer has to be the hardest working drummer in northern NH. He plays everywhere and is an in demand musician. Mike Rossi plays a lot with Jared, together they form a killer rhythm section. Steve Hunt is an incredible pianist in his own right. He has played with some of the heaviest of the heavies in Jazz and has a strong personal style all his own.
This weekend is the 49th annual Littleton Art Festival! We are closing out the festivities of this day with amazing original music from two incredible bands… Dares from NYC and The Ruined Generations from Haverhill NH area.
As we start up our series of live music this fall I’m thinking about the importance of fostering a scene around the arts and music in our north country community. We have been at it for a while now and are constantly trying new things, sometimes risky things… What we really depend on is a dedicated core group of folks that support live music and the arts.
The story of how the Tighten / étranger line up came together is an interesting one. Both artists are local guys and the musical connections with Matt Scott and Jake Rivers were just too good to pass up!
Sometimes I like to pretend that Franconia Notch is like The Wall in GoT, we are on the northern side of it, just south and trees are greener, theres more cars, shopping malls...
